Dr. Tavel Vision Care Plans
Frequently Asked Questions

  • As a small employer, won't the cost of this additional benefit be too high?

Vision plans do not work like regular major medical insurance.  When premiums are calculated for major medical, the larger the group, the more the risk is spread out, thus lowering the cost per individual.  However, there are no surprises or catastrophic claims in vision care!  The level of benefit is defined and determined by you and what you want to spend.  Dr. Tavel customizes the vision care plans for each employer based on their needs and budget.

  • What is included in a vision care package?

An annual eye exam is standard with any package, but the rest is up to you.  A typical plan includes an eye examination a frame and a pair of lenses every twelve months.  Some plans limit the frame frequency to every twenty-four months.  Some plans include contact lenses in addition to glasses, while others allow contact lenses in lieu of glasses.  Family members may be included, or coverage can be restricted to employees only.  Your Dr. Tavel representative will help you design a plan within your budget that will work best for your company.

  • Why is an annual eye exam necessary?

Optimum visual acuity is important to productivity in a workplace.  You can maximize, at least, this aspect of your employee's productivity through an annual eye examination.  The cost of this is low compared to the cost of mistakes made, time lost, or accidents that are the result of uncorrected vision.  A routine eye exam can also detect over 30 serious health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, and certain cancers before other symptoms are evident.  The major medical expenses involved with treatment of these diseases at an advanced stage are enormous.  However, if the conditions are caught in the early stages, perhaps through an annual eye examination, treatment is less expensive and more effective.  An annual eye exam is not only an inexpensive but important preventive health care measure, it is also a major step on the path to increased workforce productivity.
